The Hospital Corporation of America's auditing group produces audit reports that must be clear and objective. They asked the Business Writing Center to develop a course that would train employees in these skills and possibly develop a workshop with the same training for use with some employees.

They wanted training that would

  1. train employees in the special skills required to enable them to write clear, objective audit reports
  2. allow trainees to take the course when they had time
  3. guarantee the individual attention of a qualified writing instructor
  4. train employees in discriminating fact from inference and judgment
  5. train employees to develop data into an objective report

The Business Writing Center is developing a training program that

  1. is Internet-based so trainees can take it when they have time
  2. guarantees the individual attention of a qualified writing instructor through an 800 number and e-mail address
  3. includes lessons in discriminating fact from inference and judgment
  4. includes lessons in how to develop clear, objective reports from raw data
  5. draws other lessons from the pertinent training available in other Business Writing Center courses
