Online access is rapidly becoming a preferred medium for training. One source found 1,600 online degree programs available today, and virtually all colleges and universities are adding online courses to their programs. One listing of all programs with online degrees, certificates, and courses contains 7,986 programs.
The medium is ideal for business-writing training. Our faculty who have taught in colleges before coming to the Business Writing Center find the online medium to be much better than a classroom or workshop for writing training. Training over time, we can offer individualized help, adjust the course as necessary, provide detailed written evaluations and coaching, and get to know every student. Our training is as close as possible to having a tutor available every day to work one-on-one with each student. A workshop or classroom can't offer that kind of attention.
As one student wrote, "I believe that this is the way to go. Online, at your own pace, with assistance at your fingertips."
Writing skills cannot be learned in a two-day or three-day workshop. Online training, on the other hand, is very successful in teaching the skills. Most of our students send a spontaneous, unsolicited e-mail when they graduate telling us how much they enjoyed the training and thanking the instructors. You can read a small sampling of the many we've received. After they graduate from a course, a large number of our students take another course, and the administrators who have employees go through our program have us train other employees when the need arises.
